Robert L. Ryden
Memorial Page

Robert L. Ryden died January 27, 1992 at the age of 49. The LOAPC boat house is the Robert L. Ryden Boathouse in memory of his friendship, his leadership in rowing, and the trust fund he established to promote rowing on the Grand River in Lansing.

Bob was born in Bay City, attended Michigan State University, earning a degree in Civil Engineering, and spent his adult life working as an engineer in Michigan. He set down in Lansing in 1986 and was a founding member of LOAPC. Bob initiated the plan to build a LOAPC boathouse, persuaded the small group of rowers that it could be done, and did the design. He was able to watch the construction from his living room across the river. In the last part of his struggle with cancer, we moved his bed to the living room so he could look out at the Grand River and the boathouse.

Bob's friends in LOAPC are grateful for his contributions to rowing, happy to have had him as a warm and generous friend, and sorrowful at his death.
